At long last, the title for Episode was revealed at Star Wars Celebration this past Friday. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is now the official title for Episode IX. Sadly, the title gives us more questions than answers.
The title was revealed in a teaser trailer, but it wasn’t the only thing the teaser revealed.

Billy Dee Williams was already confirmed to be returning as Lando in Episode IX, and we got to briefly see him pilot the Millennium Falcon. Mark Hamill also returned as Luke, or at least his voice did, as he provided a narration that included new dialogue. These things alone would’ve been enough to make any Star Wars fan go crazy, but that wasn’t it. No. The trailer ends with a very familiar laugh as Luke says that “Nothing’s ever really gone.” That laugh is that of Emperor Palpatine.
This left many people wondering, “does the Emperor come back?” Well, they didn’t have to wonder long, because Ian Mcdiarmid came on stage to confirm that he would be back in Episode IX!
Star Wars: The Rise of SKywalker is slated to come out this Christmas. Until then, we’ll be left wondering just what does this all mean? Is Rey a Skywalker? Is Luke alive? How the hell is Palpatine back? All these questions and more will be answered in about 9 months.
